The Chamber applauds Supervisors Scott Weiner, David Chiu, Carmen Chu, Sean Elsbernd, Malia Cohen and Mark Farrell who received the highest scores on the Chamber’s latest Paychecks & Pink Slips Scorecard.

Paychecks, Not Pink Slips in 2012 – As the New Year begins, San Francisco’s city leaders appear ready to keep the focus on jobs and economic growth. The Chamber’s Paychecks & Pink Slips Scorecard released Tuesday shows continued improvement among the Board of Supervisors, with a solid majority voting in favor of jobs more than 75 percent of the time. Overall, the Chamber gave the Board of Supervisors a score of 82 percent (B -), up from 60 percent (D -) from last year. “The Chamber is encouraged to see the board prioritize economic issues and we hope this focus will sharpen and continue in 2012," said Chamber President & CEO Steve Falk. “We applaud Supervisors Scott Weiner, David Chiu, Carmen Chu, Sean Elsbernd, Malia Cohen and Mark Farrell who received the highest scores and who are helping to create an environment that will bring paychecks, not pink slips, to San Francisco in 2012.” View the scorecard. Redevelopment Ruling – The California Supreme Court upheld legislation dissolving the state’s redevelopment agencies and struck down a companion measure allowing them to survive by paying additional fees. The rulings may hinder in-progress projects such as Mid-Market revitalization, but will not derail approved projects already underway such as the Hunters Point Shipyard, Mission Bay and Treasure Island. The Chamber joins Mayor Lee in urging lawmakers to find alternative solutions to preserve redevelopment, which has been successfully used to create local jobs, infrastructure and affordable housing in San Francisco. “Time and time again, San Francisco has demonstrated that when redevelopment is used to its fullest potential, it can deliver results,” said Mayor Ed Lee.
