Introducing EventFlash – The Chamber hosts more than 250 events and programs each year for our members and the public to connect, gain skills and stay abreast of key business and policy issues. Business Tax Reform Update – Efforts are underway at City Hall to explore potential alternatives to the city’s payroll tax, which has been under scrutiny for a city seeking to attract and grow jobs. Discussions with various industry sectors are now being coordinated by the City Controller to solicit feedback. The Chamber is actively working with Mayor Ed Lee, Board President David Chiu, the City Controller and others to advise the city on potential reforms and keep members informed of any proposed policy alternatives. This Week in Public Policy – The San Francisco Department of Elections certified a ballot measure for the June Primary Election that would limit the number of private events and prioritize funding for maintenance at Coit Tower. A Board of Supervisors committee voted 2-1 to move the America’s Cup deal to a full board vote next Tuesday. The San Francisco Port Commission adopted a new "zero waste policy" for events with an expected turnout of at least 5,000 people. A new state agreement will require mobile app makers to post clear privacy policies for their applications. The House or Representatives Natural Resources Committee approved HR1837, which would upend the state’s system of water rights and extract water from Northern California cities to send to farmers in the valley. Congress approved legislation renewing a payroll tax cut for 160 million workers. President Obama proposed a major overhaul of the nation’s corporate tax code.

Members Making News – The America’s Cup revealed the race course for the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco. Building operations consulting firm BuildingWise, LLC opened a second California location at 50 California Street. The San Francisco Business Times profiles Chamber member and University of California, San Francisco Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann. SFMTA Budget Town Hall Meetings
March 3 - 21

 

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is considering service cuts, fare increases, parking fine increases, expanded parking meter operations and other proposals to close its projected $19.6 million deficit.
