| Warriors' Peter Guber Joins ForecastSF Headliners – Golden State Warriors co-owner Peter Guber joins a stellar lineup of speakers at ForecastSF presented by Wells Fargo Wednesday, October 3rd at the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental. As the city puts its focus on waterfront revitalization, Guber will offer an insider's look at the $500 million privately-financed plan to bring a new Warrior's area to Piers 30-32 in time for the 2017-18 season. Hosted in partnership with the San Francisco Center for Economic Development, this year's event will also feature remarks and an economic forecast from Wells Fargo's Chief Economist John Silvia and Chief Financial Officer Tim Sloan, a discussion of key job growth sectors attracting jobs to the city, and a preview of the next the wave of opportunity for San Francisco businesses. City Puts Focus on Central Waterfront – Mayor Ed Lee reiterated the city's commitment to revitalize the Central Waterfront and restructured the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) to help advance Chamber-supported projects including the Warriors arena at Piers 30-32, the San Francisco Giants' Mission Rock development on Seawall Lot 337, the Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment and Forest City's remaking of the historic shipyard at Pier 70. "The cumulative effect of these developments will be profound," said Mayor Lee. Former OEWD Director Jennifer Matz will now lead efforts to revitalize the Central Waterfront. Appointed OEWD Deputy Director Todd Rufo will now serve as OEWD Director. Read more.

| Chamber Urges State Pension Reform – The Chamber joined with 20 of California's most influential business associations this week to urge statewide pension reform and voice support for Governor Brown's 12-point plan to address the issue. "California's pension problems cannot be fixed city by city, special district by special district in a patchwork manner," said Chamber President & CEO Steve Falk. "The Governor's proposal is an important first step in returning California's pension obligations to a state of fiscal sustainability." If implemented, the reforms are expected to have a $4B-$11B impact on California's unfunded pension liability. Read more. |

| Starbucks Corp. is investing $25 million in 2011 Innovation Through Technology Ebbies winner Square Inc. and will use its payment system in its 7,000 coffee shops. Sutter Health's Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute won a two-year $883,000 training grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to help it with patient outcomes research. The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will implement a pilot project to create and evaluate a bicycle sharing system to be used by Airport Commission employees. Virgin America was named North America's best domestic airline, best low-cost airline and best staff service at the 2012 World Airline Awards ceremony held at the Farnborough International Airshow near London. | The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is discussing solutions to make the city's residential parking program more uniform and streamlined. A San Francisco Superior Court judge has denied a request for a preemptive halt to Central Subway-related construction in North Beach. The California State Assembly approved a measure to fund college scholarships by requiring multistate businesses to calculate their California income tax liability based on the percentage of their sales in California. California State Senator Mark Leno has proposed legislation to allow San Francisco restaurants, bars, and nightclubs with afterhours permits and within areas zoned for late night operation, to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. California lawmakers backed a bill prohibiting public agencies from disabling cellphone service without probable cause and a court order. The California Air Resources Board is considering a plan to provide extra carbon credits in the state's cap-and-trade program created by the Chamber-supported Global Warming Solutions Act. |
