| Chamber Joins Governor Brown in Calling for Passage of Prop 30 –The Chamber joined Governor Jerry Brown and business and education leaders in urging support for Prop 30 (California’s Temporary Tax Increase to Support Education and Public Safety). “While it’s hard to get enthusiastic about a tax increase, it’s easy to get enthusiastic about supporting California’s education system,” Chamber President & CEO Steve Falk said during a press conference last week. If Prop 30 fails, San Francisco’s public education system will face a financial disaster to the tune of $23 million in additional budget cuts for the 2012-13 year alone. “This Chamber of Commerce knows how to act,” added Falk. “We need to move forward, we need to fix education and we need Prop. 30 to pass.” Read more. |

| Supervisor Jane Kim at the Chamber – Chamber members heard from District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim Monday at the October Supes for Lunch. Supervisor Kim discussed the success of the Chamber-supported Mid-Market Payroll Tax Exclusion, development projects in the district and the Chamber-backed business tax reform measure (Prop E) on the November ballot. “Payroll tax is the wrong way to ask business to invest in our city,” said Supervisor Kim. “Prop E is the right step forward.” The group also expressed concerns and engaged the Supervisor in a dialogue about CEQA reform and aggressive panhandling that is impacting businesses and visitors. The next Supes for Lunch is November 21st with District 10 Supervisor Malia Cohen. Read more and register. |
