Chamber Advocates for Jobs in Washington, D.C. – A delegation of more than two dozen Chamber members joined together this week on Capitol Hill to advocate for federal investments to create jobs and accelerate economic recovery.  During CityTrip 2010, the group met with key lawmakers including: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, Obama Administration officials and others on issues such as transportation, healthcare, water, trade, economic development, climate change and more. The group also toured the White House, D.C. City Hall and the Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency.  Read more. Header

topstory Speaker Pelosi Briefs the Chamber on Healthcare – As House Democrats work to secure votes for healthcare reform, the Chamber delegation met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi

to discuss the passage of the Senate version of healthcare reform and the reconciliation bill.  The delegation expressed concerns over the lack of detail surrounding the impact on small businesses, the definition of small business and other unanswered questions. The Group also discussed the President’s $17.6 billion jobs package giving employers a payroll tax holiday for hiring workers this year, and the alarming increase in bankruptcies among small business. Sen. Feinstein and Rep. Speier Discuss Healthcare, Economic Recovery – The Chamber delegation met with Senator Dianne Feinstein   topstory

Tuesday on healthcare, economic recovery and federal assistance related to California's budget deficit. Sen. Feinstein reiterated her strong support for the Senate healthcare bill, but also expressed concerns over the process the House is considering to pass the bill. The group later met with U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier to discuss a $30 billion proposal for community banks to lend to small businesses.  "Until healthcare passes, we cannot do the significant work that we need to do for job creation," Speier said noting that San Francisco lost 5,000 small businesses last year due to the economic climate.   Delegation Talks Trade with the USTR– The Chamber met with officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative

(USTR) to discuss the Obama Administration's trade agenda and opportunities for export-oriented growth and job creation under the President's National Export Initiative (NEI).  Ninety-five percent of the world's customers reside outside of our borders and expanded trade will play an important part in our nation's economic recovery efforts, noted the trade officials.
