voters, according to the 2010 CityBeat pollunveiled by the Chamber on Wednesday at its 160th annual meeting attended by nearly 1,000 business and civic leaders. The poll revealed support for economic development incentives, opposition to new tax measures, and interest in new solutions to address government efficiency and behavior on city streets and sidewalks. “Now is the time to take actions that are going to create more paychecks, not pink slips for San Francisco,” Chamber Board Chair and Catholic Healthcare West V.P. of External & Government Relations, Wade Rose, told attendees at the event presenting the 2010 Board of Directors and springboarding the Chamber’s advocacy agenda. Optimism and Opportunity Emphasized at Annual Meeting -

of Beacon Economics, Jon Haveman, forecasted modest regional economic and job growth through 2010 but warned that recovery would continue to be slow at Wednesday’s CityBeat Breakfast. Access to Capital Impacting Economic Recovery – Lack of access to capital and delayed purchases are contributing to a slow economic recovery in California, according to a new survey from Small Business California. Of the 2,721 small businesses that responded to the survey, 78 percent said they were delaying purchases to control costs. “Small businesses are the economic backbone of our state, and if they cannot get capital to make purchases, the economy will not expand,” said Small Business California founder Scott Hauge. Chamber Meets with Secretary Locke to Prepare for 2010 Census – Chamber Senior Vice President of Public Policy Jim Lazarus met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke on Saturday during a private meeting to discuss the importance of a complete and accurate 2010 Census count. Beginning March 15, the U.S. Postal Service will begin delivering 2010 Census questionnaires and Census Day is April 1. The Chamber encourages business community participation in this once-a-decade moment determining more than $400 billion in federal funding annually. Chamber Welcomes New Fashion Business to SF –- The Chamber congratulates Black Fleece for the opening of its second store on 2223 Fillmore Street on Monday.
