National Healthcare Reform has become the most widely discussed and debated topic of 2009, but there is widespread misunderstanding of its impact. The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce was pleased to have convened some of the best minds across public and private sectors to address the issues related to the top domestic legislative goal of the Obama Administration - national health care reform - and its impacts on San Franciscans. Our objective was to educate and inform by bringing together legislators, experts and employers of large and small companies to discuss how healthcare reform is expected to affect employers, employees, hospitals and your family.

We also discussed how the healthcare industry stimulates the economy through
direct job growth at hospitals and universities - some of San Francisco's largest employers. We discussed the significant direct and indirect cross-industry job growth through hospital rebuilds/expansions, through visitor revenue as a medical-specialty treatment destination and through the proliferation of next-generation medical technology.

From an economic growth perspective, San Francisco is a burgeoning
hub for newer industries that stem from healthcare - biotechnology and regenerative medicine.

San Francisco has a formula that works:
- World class research hospitals and universities
- Economic stimulus that the healthcare industry generates here in San Francico.
