Healthcare Reform and California Small Businesses

Small Business Majority
Tuesday, August 24, 2010, 12-1pm
SFCC Boardroom

Small Business Majority wants to hear from you.

Small Business Majority is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded and run by small business owners and focused on solving the biggest problem facing small businesses today: the skyrocketing cost of health coverage. By working directly with congressional leaders and other national, state and regional business groups, the organization has helped ensure that elected officials understand the needs of small businesses and that public policies enacted reflect those needs.

Healthcare reform is now the law of the land, but a lot of work remains to be done. Starting now and in the coming years, important decisions that affect small businesses will be made by policymakers at the state and federal levels. Your input—your questions and concerns about the new law and the impact it will have on your business—will form the foundation of our continued engagement with leaders in Washington, DC, and Sacramento, and the policy recommendations we make to those who will be authoring new regulations and implementing reform.

On August 24, 2010, in conjunction with the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Majority will hold an event for small business owners to discuss how you can take advantage of the new legislation and how we can best work together to ensure that your voices continue to be heard.

The event will begin with brief presentations from: John Arensmeyer, founder and CEO, Small Business Majority

Micah Weinberg, senior research fellow, New America Foundation

Schwarzenegger administration official (tentative)

John and Micah will discuss the aspects of federal healthcare reform most important to small businesses, including tax credits, the creation of a health insurance exchange through which small employers and self-employed individuals will be able to purchase affordable coverage, cost containment, and insurance reforms.
