The scorecard is the second annual report from the Chamber spotlighting the year's top economic issues and the Supervisors who are doing the most – and the least – to spur employment, stimulate the economy and improve government efficiency in San Francisco. The 2010 scorecard reveals that only a slim majority of Supervisors (six out of 11) continued to vote in favor of jobs and government efficiency more than half of the time. While Supervisors Daly and Mirkarimi increased their scores, two-thirds of the Supervisors received lower rankings than they did in 2009. Supervisors with the highest scores in 2010 are Sean Elsbernd (D7), Carmen Chu (D4) and Michela Alioto-Pier (D2). Supervisors with the lowest scores of the year are Chris Daly (D6) and John Avalos (D11). "With more than 45,000 San Franciscans still unemployed and a looming $400 million budget deficit next year, jobs and economic growth must be the priority for our city," said Steven Falk, President & CEO, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. "This year, the Board of Supervisors voted against 8 out of the 20 best opportunities to spur jobs and improve government. We can do better in 2011 and the Chamber will work aggressively to ensure that we do." Earlier this year, the Chamber initiated an advertising campaign spotlighting the Paychecks & Pink Slips Scorecard reaching over 800,000 impressions per day in newspapers, on radio and on billboards across the city. Targeted at San Francisco voters, the campaign aimed to arouse the curiosity of voters and inspire them to learn more about key issues and how their elected district Supervisor is voting. "The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce thinks it's important for voters to know how the Board of Supervisors is voting when it comes to the top issues facing our city," said Jim Lazarus, Senior Vice President of Public Policy, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. "As the newly-elected Supervisors join the Board in January, the Chamber will continue in our efforts to get voters thinking – and talking – about issues that impact the economic vitality of San Francisco." The 2010 year-end Paychecks & Pink Slips Scorecard includes lawmakers' votes on the top 20 legislative actions impacting job creation, economic growth and government efficiency from January 1 - December 14, 2010. For issues including multiple amendments and votes (such as the Bayview-Hunters Point Redevelopment and the CityPlace and 222 2nd Street projects), the report includes the single votes that ultimately determined whether or not the projects would move forward.
