Dear Supervisor,

I am writing to express my support for the Civil Sidewalks (sit-lie) ordinance that will be heard by the Board of Supervisors on Monday, May 10.

San Francisco’s sidewalks have become crowded and dangerous. Neighborhoods like the Haight-Ashbury district – once synonymous with peace and love – are now hot spots for street bullies, pit bulls and drug abuse. Sidewalks are for everyone and the Civil Sidewalks ordinance will help make sure that everyone can enjoy them.

I urge you to support Mayor Newsom’s Civil Sidewalks (sit-lie) ordinance, which will give police the authority they need to address bad behavior in front of homes and stores and cite repeat offenders.

Our city needs a Civil Sidewalk ordnance so that neighbors, families, merchants, seniors and disabled residents can move freely on our sidewalks without fear of hostility and retaliation. Thank you.

Sincerely,
