The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce's 21st Century Political Action Committee (PAC) is the political voice for San Franciscans who believe sound economic policy is the key to creating an exceptional quality of life for all in the city.
The PAC serves as the engine behind the Chamber's public policy agenda. Contributions allow us to communicate with city residents though ballot handbook arguments, neighborhood newspaper ads and slate cards, educating voters on the chamber’s position on a wide variety of local ballot measures.
What’s Been Accomplished with PAC Funding
- Taxes: The PAC provided the seed money for the successful November 2006 campaign to stop a 40% increase in the parking tax.
- Hetch Hetchy: In November 2002, the Chamber, with the financial support of the PAC, led the campaign to pass Proposition A, which provided the financing to rebuild San Francisco's aging Hetch Hetchy water system.
- Care Not Cash: The Chamber's PAC provided strong support for the "Care Not Cash" initiative and other important reforms of government service delivery.
- Biotech, Housing, Schools & Planning: Building on the Chamber's commitment to sound economic development, the PAC has supported a payroll-tax exemption for San Francisco's burgeoning biotech industry, initiatives to finance and build workforce housing, bonds to rebuild public schools and libraries, and efforts to streamline San Francisco's cumbersome planning and permitting process.
